Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic Syndrome is the name given for a set of disorders that increase the chance of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes. 35% of Americans now have it, 14 years ago 25% had it.
If you have at least 4 of the disorders, your chances of developing heart disease are increased by 3.5 times
If you have least 4 of the disorders, your chances of developing diabetes are increased 25 times
The ATP3 guidelines say you have Metabolic Syndrome if you have at least 3 of the following:
- A waist measurement over 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women
- Triglycerides equal to or greater than 150 HDL less than 40 in men and less than 50 in women
- Blood pressure greater than 130/85
- Fasting glucose greater than 100
